What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is one of those treatments which sounds painful when you name it, and no less so when you try to describe it. Anything that features the word “abrasion” might give anyone pause for thought before deciding to embark on a course of it. If you were then to explain it further as a system which is practised by spraying fine crystals at the skin from point-blank range, it is entirely understandable that people will be put off. However, there is no reason why it need be painful and, in all actuality, it will be slightly uncomfortable at most.

Microdermabrasion is carried out using specialised tools, and these tools are designed to make the treatment as fuss-free and painless as possible. There are now a few different kinds of microdermabrasion practised in spas and health clinics, and for different people there will be different treatments they prefer. While many clinics do still offer the original form of the treatment – the spraying of fine crystals at the skin from a short distance – there are others which prefer the use of a roughened wand. Microdermabrasion – The “Lunchtime Peel”

It is important to an increasing number of people to keep their skin looking fresh and youthful. In order to achieve this, there are a number of different treatments that you can undergo. Some, like Botox, have attracted criticism for the somewhat “artificial” look that they bring about (the “Botox smile” is a common phrase for a frozen grin that looks more like a grimace), while others are questioned in terms of whether they are at all effective. Microdermabrasion seems to be one of the most popular, both in terms of customers and relative absence of critics.

The occasional nickname given to microdermabrasion is “the lunchtime peel”, and it is so called because a single treatment of microdermabrasion takes approximately half an hour. It is something that can be done at your leisure, and leaves you feeling and looking fresher. Unlike Botox, microdermabrasion will not leave your skin feeling and looking so tight that you are unable to move your facial muscles.
